So a couple weeks ago (sheesh, can’t believe its taken me so long to blog about this already), my friend Alex De Carvalho and I decided we were going to make a wager over who could improve their traffic and audience the most in a year. So I figured as matter of public record I would document this all here and now.
In 1 year from the bet’s starting point (April 1, 2010), we will measure our google analytics traffic and try and see who has grown the most relative to their previous year’s starting traffic. The loser of the bet must purchase a case of the finest malted and fermented hops and yeast the winner so desires (aka a case of beer).
So why are we doing this? Well its self serving for each us, but since we are both highly vocal members of the south florida tech community (we’re pretty much at the nexus of most of it), it should help the community out as well.
So what are the basic ground rules? They are simple:
- No unethical SEO tricks (aka blackhat stuff)
- No copyright or law breaking can be involved.
- Everything has to be documented and made transparent (though not immediately, you gotta be able to retain some competitive edge)
- You are allowed, if not encouraged, to use as much social media as possible to win.
So with that in mind, you are also welcome to participate in this quest for increased audiences and minor internet celebrity. Just follow along and post in the comments your site, and your progress.
Note the bet is between each of our respective online “brands” BrianBreslin.com and AlexDC.org. Alex was ahead of me in overall traffic and stats at the beginning of this wager, who knows what will happen at the end.
If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to improve my audience and traffic, feel free to chime in here, or email them to me brianbreslin [at] gmail.com thanks!
Hey folks, sorry for the relative quiet around here lately. I haven’t had much time the last 3 months to post to this blog, or any other blog for that matter. In the next few days you’ll see the revised layout implemented, the feeds fixed (that was a royal pain), and several new articles about facebook.
We’ll be selling ads on the site soon, so if you are interested, shoot me an email breslin[at]infinimedia.com thanks!
Hey everyone,
There won’t be any updates today as we’re busy working on some new exciting changes to the site. We’ve got a neat little project for you that should be ready tonight or tomorrow. I’ll give you a hint, its muy “sabroso.”
We are also trying to improve the workflow of this site, so some things you might keep your eye out for over the next few days:
- Better comment formatting and tools
- More content
- Improved event info
- More community oriented stuff as well
So stay tuned, and please leave us some suggestions and ideas.
thanks,
Brian
So unless you’re one of the RSS subscribers to the site, you’ve probably noticed the interface revamp and identity change of web+. Gone is the pseudo web2.0 design we had going there for a few weeks that wasn’t exactly polished in many areas. In its place we’ve put this much more serious and elegant design (at least I think its elegant). Unfortunately I can’t take credit for the design, that goes to my friend Antonio who did this as a favor to me.
So what does this new design and concept mean? Well hopefully it means we’ll be able to build a brand and identity for the site, and help it grow. We’re planning a few of our own social networking events (in firstlife, not second life folks, well maybe in second life too, who knows, we’ll see.).
So what do we have planned for the upcoming season? Well Barcamp is going to be a great event hosted by UM and organized by our very own Alex de Carvalho. We are also planning a web+drinks event in late February which will be more of a cocktail party/bar meetup than anything. We’re hoping some interesting conversations can emerge from events like this.
Further down the line, Josip Vilicic and myself will be presenting/organizing a web+marketing workshop. So keep your eyes peeled for that. If you’re interested in attending/presenting, email me brian[at]webpl.us. So I hope you enjoy the new site! Feedback is ALWAYS welcome.
Please excuse some of the dust, I am still working on the details/minor issues. They should be resolved today.
