I’ve been thinking about job boards and discussing them with some of the others in RefreshMiami a bunch lately. I know they burst onto the scene years ago (I’m talking niche job boards). So it turns out that from my 10 minute research, these features on sites (none I know of are standalone sites), are grossing almost a million dollars a year!
The top earner in the category is 37Signals Job board with over $30k/month in earnings. The second biggest earner of the bunch is not who I had expected, it is Cameron Moll’s AuthenticJobs, which is generating close to $20k/month. The AuthenticJobs is really impressive considering its a one man shop running it. Hats off Cam for making such a successful job board. Here is a link to the spreadsheet below.

Here is a link to the spreadsheet of all the sites I’ve researched.
Here’s a thought: Apple does an unlimited rentals for $15-17/month but you can only have 2 movies “rented” at a time. Think this would work? Think apple would do it? It would be their answer to Netflix’s download service, which to be honest isn’t that great (and doesn’t work on my mac!)
I think I know a few people who would pay $15/month for unlimited movies. Are we really moving to a society whereby we own nothing and rent everything?
After being struck with a bit of insomnia, I noticed Pownce was finally out of private beta mode. Aside from finally opening up, something they should have done 3+ months ago, they’ve also thrown in a bunch of viral features that make them a viable tool.
The only new feature I found interesting was that they were now letting you import your friends from other networks (facebook, twitter, digg, flickr, etc.). Not exactly sure how their facebook importer works, but I’ll definitely be investigating. Ironically they are using Twitter’s API to pull the social graph from twitter.com over to pownce.
Now the only step left is for them to give you an APML or xml file for your pownce relationships.
So my last post was about what I’d like to do in 2008. This is where I’d like to go. Usually people follow up their year with a recap of cities they’ve visited, so this time I’d like to preface it with my list of places I’d like to visit this year. Places with a * are places I’ve never been before.
- Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Montevideo, Uruguay *
- Sao Paolo, Brazil *
- Tokyo, Japan
- New York, NY
- Santiago, Chile *
- Sydney, Australia *
- London, UK
- Seattle, WA *
- Vancouver, BC *
- Washington, DC
- Austin, TX (SXSW)
- Dublin, IE
- Prague, CZ
Thats alot of cities, if you can think of any I should check out this year, and have some interesting tips for visiting that city, comment away!
